Transformational Designs: Redecorating With Morris & Co.
Creating a space that truly feels like your own can be transformative. And that was exactly the intention behind Morris & Co.’s latest collaboration with influencer and interior designer Sara Charlesworth.
The project began with a simple but meaningful change: transforming Sara’s children’s nursery into her very first home office. More than just a functional workspace, the room was imagined as a personal retreat, a place for focus, creativity, and calm.
When developing a moodboard, Sara was immediately drawn to Morris & Co. x The Huntington. Deeply rooted in heritage and born from unfinished original sketches by William Morris and his studio, the collection’s expressive designs and confident palette resonated with Sara’s vision for a space that felt grounding and inspiring.
She anchored the scheme with Peony Trellis wallpaper and Hanover Check fabric, thoughtfully layering patterns, colors, and textures throughout the room. Feature walls, soft furnishings, and carefully chosen accents work in harmony to add depth and warmth – proving that a home office can be just as characterful as any other room in the house. The result is a cozy, creative haven.
Her biggest advice on starting a redecorating project? Start with something you truly love, then build around it.
The home office. What are your thoughts on this room within the home? How did you want yours to be different?
Our home office used to be our kids’ nursery. After finishing our basement and moving the kids downstairs into their own rooms, it freed up this space to become my office, which felt special since I’ve never had a designated workspace before.
I didn’t want it to feel cold or overly “office-like.” I wanted it to flow naturally with the rest of our home. Cozy, playful, and full of personality. A space that sparks creativity and feels like somewhere I genuinely want to spend time in.
How did you go from having these ideas to then moving them into something tangible—into making aesthetic, furniture, and decoration decisions? What advice would you give
I always start with one strong inspiration piece, something that immediately catches my eye and sets the tone. For this room, it was the Morris & Co. x The Huntington collection, specifically the Peony Trellis wallpaper and Hanover Check fabric.
From there, I build a moodboard and layer everything in. Paint colors, furniture, lighting, textiles, decor. Seeing it all together helps me edit more clearly and refine the direction. It takes the guesswork out and gives me confidence when it’s time to bring everything into the space.
My biggest advice is to start with something you truly love, then build around it. Let the room evolve from that point rather than trying to piece together disconnected ideas.
What drew you to the Morris & Co. x The Huntington collection?
There was an immediate feeling when I saw the collection that it just belonged in our home. The colors felt personal, and the patterns struck that perfect balance between traditional and whimsical.
There’s a timelessness to it, but also a sense of play, which is something I’m always drawn to. It felt like the right foundation to build the entire room around.
Why Peony Trellis and Hanover Check?
I loved the push and pull between the two. They don’t match in an obvious way, but they complement each other beautifully. That mix of pattern creates interest without feeling forced. It felt layered and collected, which is always the goal for me.
Have Morris & Co. designs been part of your home before?
Yes, this isn’t the first time we’ve used Morris & Co. in our home. We first brought it in about four years ago when we wallpapered our hallway floor to ceiling, and I immediately fell in love.
From there, we incorporated the Marigold fabric into our bedroom, creating a canopy and upholstering elements of the bed for a layered, pattern-on-pattern look.
Because our hallway, bedroom, and office all connect, it felt like a natural continuation to bring Morris & Co. into this space as well. It creates a cohesive flow throughout the home.
What has it been like working in your home office now? Do you notice a difference?
Yes, completely. Before, I was working wherever I could. The couch, the dining table, even my bed. It never felt grounded or intentional.
Now having a dedicated space has changed my routine entirely. I feel more focused, more inspired, and more settled in my day.
It’s a small room, but it feels incredibly special. I love being in it, and I never get tired of the space. It’s cozy, layered, and exactly the kind of environment I’m drawn to.
Marking the first original William Morris designs in more than a century, Morris & Co. x The Huntington is a new body of work born from original, unfinished sketches by Morris and his studio, now completed by our design team.
