The enduring appeal of Golden Lily
As seen in your homes
Golden Lily is an enduring design for its vivid depiction of an English summer garden. Set amongst curved tendrils, perfectly crafted petals and bold blooms, this versatile pattern, designed by John Henry Dearle in 1899, has been reimagined in countless different ways.
From fabric made into pillows perched on velvet armchairs to feature walls, we are always inspired by the innovative ways you repurpose our fabrics and wallpapers.
Dearle intended Golden Lily originally as a wallpaper, which throughout history has been reinvented and famously recast in a darker colorway in the 1960s as a staple for pop culture legends such as George Harrison and Ossie Clark who were photographed in a Golden Lily shirt and jacket, respectively.
We’ve loved seeing our wallpapers in your homes, so much so, that we’ve brought together a few of our favourites to inspire budding Golden Lily fans. Drawing from international sources of inspiration, here’s some of the gorgeous ways we’ve seen Golden Lily in your homes.

Idea one: Partnered with Panelling
Bathrooms are well suited to wallpaper, especially when tied together with panelling. Create distinctive lines around feature wallpaper that depicts the unyielding, wild beauty of nature. The nineteenth century wallpaper, seen in a lighter palette here, is ideal for infusing simple spaces into eye catching, statement rooms.
Idea two: Crafted into comfort
Sasha’s gorgeous cat is clearly a big fan of this upholstered chair in Golden Lily, and truly who can blame him? Boasting enduring comfort and style, this renowned pattern lends itself to accent features such as headboards, shades and pillows. It offers a warm, light and inviting alternative to our selection of plains. What’s not to love?
Idea three: Feature wall
Sheflies look all the more elegant when sitting next to an accent wall of Golden Lily. Chandler and Jeremy have added a burst of Victorian revival influences into their living room to give their Nashville-based home a touch of English heritage into their interiors. Next to neutral walls, Golden Lily can truly flourish, leaving the pattern to be the main feature to style the entire room around.
Idea four: Enveloped in cosiness
Nestled in the north of Sweden is this inviting bedroom, which is enveloped in Golden Lily wallpaper. Crafted with cosiness in mind, by covering all the walls in our rich historic paper, the room is wrapped in warmth and color. Next to the white walls, it’s a stunning contrast to the ornate detailing in the rich design packed with iconic motifs and heritage hues to transform this into a cosy corner.
