The size and shape of your rug
It’s always best to start by measuring out the expected size of your rug in your chosen room, as the size and shape can make a huge difference to the overall feel of your space.
Use masking tape to measure out the size of the rug and see where it sits, as this will be the best way to imagine what the rug will look like in the room. Traditional rectangular rugs work well as centrepieces in living spaces and bedrooms, but they work best when they’re laid underneath the edge of furniture, rather than sitting neatly in between all your furniture.
This layering can bring a room together, as opposed to making the rug appear too small and drowned by the ambiance of the room. As a rule, if your room is in between rug sizes, it usually looks best to choose a larger one.
