Our designs evoke a sense of home and comfort in their charm and unmistakable pattern. This deep connection to home and the artistry that lives within has been reinforced by a recent collaboration with The Fabled Thread and social enterprise Oshana.

Designed by The Fabled Thread founder Eppie Thompson and stitched by the women from Oshana, a limited-edition series of handmade, framed embroidery artworks inspired by elements of the Bedford Park collection, interpreted by Eppie herself, have been created. Combining the radical designs of Morris with the aesthetic of The Fabled Thread, each framed piece bears the embroidered signature of the woman who stitched it. This is the power of handcrafted.

Every Stitch is a Connection

Founded by Eppie Thompson, The Fabled Thread is a modern embroidery studio with a difference. Eppie works to inspire people to pick up a needle and experience the mindful benefits of sewing. Her modern, colourful, storytelling designs have tempted thousands to try stitching for the first time, giving them the confidence to create. Through its work with the social enterprise Oshana, The Fabled Thread proves creativity can be taught and nurtured and can change lives.

The inspiration

For founder, Eppie Thompson, working with us has been a collaboration a long time in the making, rooted in her own family home, she said, “I grew up surrounded by William Morris designs. Our study, adorned with Willow Boughs on the walls, curtains, and furniture, was where my love for Arts & Crafts was nurtured from a young age… When I purchased my own home, my first instinct was to bring a touch of that same creativity into my space with Morris & Co. wallpaper in the hallway.”

Inspiring long after his time, the beauty of William Morris’s artistic hand is its interpretive quality across mediums. Daisy, a design from 1864, was as unique then as it is now. Most recently featured in the Bedford Park collection (which brings together the creative talents of William Morris’s inner circle), striking designs dedicated to the principles of the craft come to the fore. With every stroke of a paintbrush and pencil marking, they promoted artistry and a connection to nature. Daisy’s alluring quality, one of these first wallpaper designs, has been the subject of Eppie Thompson’s creative eye, interpreting elements of this medieval floral design for a new purpose: to be embroidered by the women of Oshana.

“It has been an extraordinary honour to collaborate with Morris & Co. in designing these unique embroideries to celebrate the launch of their latest collection."

Eppie Thompson, Founder of The Fabled Thread

Eppie goes on to say, "My designs pay homage to the vibrant and wild hues of the Bedford Park collection while embracing the classic Arts & Crafts motifs that are quintessentially ‘Morris’. These creations have been expertly brought to life by the skilled artisans at Oshana. I hope these pieces reflect a blend of our shared passions—a fusion of William Morris's enduring designs with the timeless craft of embroidery.”
