You can already see from this early work of William Morris his brimming passion for native, common plants that he would have encountered in Victorian England. Here, he takes the low-growing, often walked upon daisy, and makes this humble flower the main subject of decoration across our homes.
Morris’s passion for the Medieval age is evident here too. The flat background and rendering of the flowers, are influenced by the ‘millefleur’ style you find woven Medieveal tapestries, as well as early printed herbals.
